More Than $21,000 Raised to Support MAF Educational and Architecture Awareness Programming, Student Scholarships, and More
Online auction for the public coming this holiday season, with exciting items for gifting or treating yourself!
MAF hosted its annual Auction for Education August 7, 2020, during the 2020 AIA/AGC Michigan Mid-summer Conference on Mackinac Island. Conference attendees placed successful bids on unique dining, vacation, and entertainment experiences, as well as wines, artwork, and other items.
According to Bob Daverman, AIA, MAF Trustee and Auction for Education chair, “This year’s auction was an enormous success, raising $21,680 to support many programs for creative children, career-minded high schoolers, university students, and the public to learn about architecture. I am inspired by the generosity of our donors and the incredible interest of auction bidders, particularly during these unprecedented times.”
Programs that have benefited from MAF’s Auction for Education include the National Organization of Minority Architects Detroit (NOMA Detroit) Project Pipeline Camp, which exposes high school students to careers in architecture and the built environment; MAF has provided funding for the program since its inaugural year in 2016. Auction proceeds also help support MAF’s Architecture Awareness Grants, awarded to organizations and individuals for programming that advance the public’s knowledge and appreciation of architecture throughout Michigan.
While the MAF live auction was for conference attendees only, Bob is planning an online auction open to everyone during this year’s holiday shopping season. The online auction will also feature many exciting items and experiences for gift giving, or for treating yourself. Look for announcements regarding the online auction in the coming months.
“As a foundation, MAF is unique, strong, and thoughtful in its meaningful efforts in supporting human diversity, sustainability, and communities through our programs, scholarships and grants, said Bob. “Through events like the MAF Auction for Education, we are able to generate funding for those programs that inspire kids and communities, and which help us advance awareness of how architecture makes lives better.”
