Food, wine, and tribute to service were at celebration’s center at the recent MAF Banicki Scholarship Fund event, an annual MAF special event honoring long-time MAF supporters Katherine and the late John Banicki. This year’s event was held November 9, 2023 at The War Memorial in Grosse Pointe, with 84 guests in attendance. Nearly $20,000 was raised; all event proceeds benefitted MAF’s Katherine and John Banicki Scholarship Fund.
The event recognized John Banicki’s military service to the U.S. during WWII, and included a gourmet dinner with food and special French wine pairings, along with a silent auction. Wine pairings for the dinner were focused on producers from regions of France that were forced to surrender to German occupation during WWII.
“The theme for this year’s event – Inspired to Serve – was built from The War Memorial motto: Live Inspired,” said Craig Wolanin, MAF Banicki Scholarship Fund event chair. “John Banicki served his country and MAF; Kathy Banicki serves MAF and her community; and these days we need to be inspired to serve each other, as the Banicki’s have.”
