Are you dreaming of a condo vacation in Florida, or a luxury boutique hotel getaway? What about the chance to obtain original artwork, or specially-selected wines for your collection? Craving the opportunity to attend to a live sporting event or concert after the long COVID lockdown? How about an exclusive fly-fishing weekend on the Pere Marquette River?
You’ll have your chance to bid on these great items and others, at this year’s MAF Auction for Education, taking place at the AIA/AGC Michigan Mid-summer Conference August 5-7, 2021 on Mackinac Island (the auction ends Friday, August 6 at 7:00 p.m.)
Hosted as a traditional silent auction, bidders generously support MAF’s exceptional educational and architecture awareness programs in exchange for exciting and unique travel, sports, wine & dine, art, and design items. The event is the second of two annual MAF Auction for Education events; the first auction takes place at MAF’s springtime ‘Fore a Great Cause’ golf fundraiser. MAF’s annual goal is to raise $25,000 between the two auctions, as a key component of its fundraising strategy.
MAF trustee Bob Daverman, AIA, who is serving his 10th year as MAF Auction for Education chair, says, “Over the years, this auction has enabled us to support the many programs for creative children, career-minded high schoolers, university students, and Michigan residents. These programs have enabled individuals to pursue architectural education and careers, as well as learn about the intrinsic value of architecture and what it means to our communities – all of which are at the heart of MAF’s mission.”
This year’s auction items include:
Each item is donated through the generosity of MAF supporters and trustees. “We appreciate the generosity of our donors and also those who purchase auction items,” said Bob. “Due to their contributions, MAF has been able to fund important programs and grow our endowment over the years. In fact, In the very difficult year of 2020, MAF was able to award over $94,000 for scholarships, programs and initiatives that make the lives of Michigan residents better through architecture.”
MAF’s Auction for Education has helped provide funding for architecture-programs including:
Additionally, MAF’s Auction for Education raises funds for MAF’s Architecture Awareness Grants program, which provides support to organizations and individuals to develop and implement architecture-focused projects and initiatives in Michigan communities.
“If you are attending this year’s conference, please be sure to place bids on your favorite auction items,” said Bob. It is a great way to support MAF’s mission, and to treat yourself or those you care about to some unique experiences and gifts.”
