MAF Awards Pinckney Team for the ‘Most Youthful and Architecturally Pleasing City’ at ESD Future City Competition

The Michigan Architectural Foundation (MAF), in cooperation with the Optimist Club of Downtown Detroit, sponsored a special award for the ‘Most Youthful and Architecturally Pleasing City’ at the Engineering Society of Detroit’s 25th annual ESD Michigan Regional Future City Competition. The event was held January 28, 2020.

The recipient of the MAF award was Team 1 from Light of the World Academy in Pinckney.

The judges particularly liked the team’s enthusiasm, considerations for many recreational and creative activities for the young people, and thought that went into the planning of physical elements of their future city.

MAF trustees Katherine Banicki, Bob Washer and Kirk Delzer represented the foundation in judging 32 teams of 6th, 7th and 8th graders from 21 schools across Michigan.  The teams presented their models, the culmination of four months of imagination, research, and design, addressing this year’s theme of Clean Water: Tap Into Tomorrow.  Find out more about the competition, and the Future City program.

MAF is proud to serve as a visible resource for funding, information, and the support and development of educational programs that increase the public’s appreciation of and connection to architecture.  For additional information on MAF and its programs, visit michiganarchitecturalfoundation.org
