It’s all ‘Fore a Great Cause’! MAF’s popular annual golf outing was held May 20, 2024 at Plum Hollow Golf Club in Southfield. The sold-out event brought together 120 golfers primarily from the architecture, engineering, construction, and associated industries, and raised more than $28,000 to help support MAF’s scholarship, educational, and grant programs.
“This year’s ‘Fore a Great Cause’ golf outing was a huge success, and the first event sellout in many years,” said Brandon Kinsey, MAF Golf Outing co-chair (outing co-chair is Kevin Shultis, AIA). “We owe that success to everyone involved; from those who register to play to our generous sponsors; and the many volunteers and MAF golf committee members who tirelessly put their time and effort into creating an outstanding event year after year. On behalf of MAF, we are grateful for your support and dedication to helping make lives better through architecture.”
MAF’s annual golf outing fundraiser is a key source of investment and support for the $44,000 a year granted in MAF architecture student scholarships. The event also supports MAF’s architecture-based educational and awareness programs, including K12 programs and Architecture Awareness Grants.
The golf outing features a popular 9-hole scramble format, putting contest, awards, lunch, and ongoing opportunities for networking. The day concludes with an Afterglow Reception that can be attended by non-golfers as well. Among the sponsorship options is the opportunity to play golf with Honorary Captains from the AEC industry; this year’s captains included Michael Wick, Architecture SME, General Motors; Larry Marantette, Owner, TAKTIX Solutions; and Brian Mullen, Project Delivery Manager – Senior Project Management, Michigan State University.
The outing also features the first of MAF’s two annual Auction for Education events. This year’s auction raised an additional $4,800, with auction items including tickets for the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers and a Crystal Mountain ‘Stay and Play’ vacation package (MAF’s second Auction for Education event takes place during the AGC/AIA Michigan Annual Meeting in August).
MAF wishes to thank all of its 2024 event sponsors, including Tournament Sponsor Plante Moran, and Bill Dunn of ARC, who donated all signage for the outing; and outing volunteers including Chuck Sidor, Dennis King, and the staff of PCIA.
In addition to co-chairs Brandon and Kevin Shultis, MAF’s Golf Committee members include Todd Drouillard, Kelli Herman, Bill Dunn, Mike Neville, and Carl Roehling.
Next year’s MAF ‘Fore a Great Cause’ golf outing is scheduled for May 19, 2025; save the date now and be sure to watch MAF’s website, newsletter, and social media for updates and registration information starting early next year.
