The Impact of Donations: MAF’s Annual Appeal Campaign

11/03/2025

In 1957, Dwight Eisenhower was President and the average home cost $12,200, with tuition at University of Michigan being $100 per semester. That same year, the Michigan Architectural Foundation was formed and for more than five decades it has provided grants, scholarships, and educational resources to people throughout Michigan. This is only possible because of generous donors.

During November and December, MAF is conducting its Annual Appeal Campaign to encourage donors to help MAF grow and benefit more people and projects than ever before. Your tax-deductible gift of any amount makes a difference in Michigan’s communities through understanding and appreciation of how architecture enriches lives.

Your contribution will benefit various MAF grants and programs such as the Evans Graham Historic Preservation Grant, MAF’s Scholarship Program (for architecture students in Michigan’s five colleges of architecture), Education Awareness Grants, Damian Farrell Architecture Awareness Grants, Fellows Fund for Equity Grant, and programs and resources for K-12 students to learn about architecture and the built environment.

“Due to the generosity of our donors, MAF is able to expand every year,” said Tom Mathison, FAIA, MAF Development Committee Chair. “Every donor, regardless of the amount, plays an important role in making the lives of Michigan residents better through architecture.”

Chuck Lewis, AIA, MAF President adds, “MAF is entirely volunteer-led, so 100% of donor gifts go directly to programs, grants, and scholarships – not to overhead or administrative costs. We are passionate and committed to maximizing the impact of our mission to increase awareness of how architecture enriches lives.”
