
MAF is pleased to welcome four new trustees to the MAF board, effective January 2026. Each will serve a two-year term.
Tom Reder, AIA
Tom is the 2026 AIA Michigan President, as well as a Principal at Colliers Engineering & Design. Tom is a licensed Architect with over 30 years of experience in project management, design, guideline development, project support and development, and maintenance of design and construction documentation. As part of a multi-disciplinary design firm, Tom works closely with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and other specialty consultants to ensure every facet of design and construction meets or surpasses client expectations. Tom also serves on the MAF Scholarship Committee.
Katherine Banicki, FESD, Hon. AIA
Katherine is President and CEO of Testing Engineers & Consultants, Inc. (TEC), a certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise providing geotechnical, environmental, building and infrastructure engineering, and construction materials testing services. She is returning to the Board of Trustees and after previously serving. Katherine co- founded TEC in 1966 with her late husband, John Banicki and has earned recognition for her resilience and leadership. Katherine is deeply committed to education and community service, supporting scholarships for engineering and architecture students, and contributing to numerous civic, youth, and professional organizations. She is the first woman appointed to the Board of Directors of the Associated General Contractors of Michigan and currently serves on the Board of the Engineering Society of Detroit.
Jason Ide, CCM, LEED AP
Jason is a Project Executive at The Christman Company and has been in construction for over 18 years. He has delivered construction management solutions across government, K-12 education, and healthcare sectors. Jason is a Certified Construction Manager (CCM) and a LEED Accredited Professional (AP). He has worked on projects for the University of Michigan, Chicago Public Schools, and Bedrock Development.
Leo Mendez Jr., AIA, NCARB
Leo is Vice President of Design for Olympia Development of Michigan and has more than 30 years of global design experience in development, commercial real estate, retail, and high-density mixed-use destinations for the Ilitch organization. Leo is responsible for the creation and development of design concepts and direction leading teams through all phases of numerous projects for The District Detroit. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute, American Institute of Architects, International Council of Shopping Centers, and is a licensed architect in Michigan and Arizona. Leo is also a self-published author of Random Deep Feelings (2024), a book of poetry, photography, and art.
